Givealittle fund set up for eight-year-old Waverley car crash victim Nivek Madams

A Givealittle fund has been set up for eight-year-old Waverley crash victim Nivek Madams, who died in Waikato Hospital on Thursday.

Nivek is one of seven victims of the head-on collision on SH3 north of Waverley in Taranaki on Wednesday morning, the country's worst road accident in 13 years.

She was travelling in a car with her stepfather, mother and baby sister when it collided with another vehicle carrying four people.

Her stepfather, who was driving, and her newborn baby sister died at the scene of the crash and all four occupants of the other vehicle died on or soon after impact.

Eight-year-old Nivek was taken to Waikato Hospital and put on life support with critical injuries. She was baptised by a pastor at her father's request, and passed away early on Thursday morning.

While in hospital Nivek spoke to friends and family over the phone, including her father who was not able to visit her as he is serving a prison sentence according to NZME.

"Nivek has been surrounded by her family since the crash and was baptised by Pastor Sonny of Waikato Hospital at her father's request," a Givealittle page set up by a family friend reads.

"As the new cluster of Matariki stars for those who have left us were announced, Nivek's little life slid away."

The givealittle fund is raising money cover the costs associated with Nivek's funeral and her headstone.

Nivek's mother Ani Madams, who is now the sole survivor of the collision, is in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at Wellington Hospital.
