American gymnast Simone Biles has been praised for prioritizing her “mental well-being over everything else” after she withdrew from the women’s Olympic final.
The head of the U.S. Olympic team, many gymnasts, and other athletes were among those who praised Biles’ decision.
The 24-year-old withdrew from the event and said: “I want to focus on my mental health.”
“We commend your decision to prioritize your mental well-being over everything else and offer you the full support and resources of our Team USA community as you navigate the journey forward.” said Sarah Hirshland, chief executive of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee.
