The Black Caps will take a 1-0 lead into the third and final ODI against Sri Lanka after today’s match at Hagley Oval was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Inclement weather in Christchurch prevented a toss from being made and, a couple of hours after the scheduled start time, the umpires made the early call to send home the teams.
New Zealand, who crushed the tourists by 198 runs in the first match at Eden Park, now cannot be defeated in the series.
The teams will head to Hamilton for the third clash at Seddon Park on Friday, before a three-match T20 series begins at Eden Park on Sunday.
