Football: All Whites friendly against Qatar abandoned after claims ...

The All Whites' international friendly against Qatar has been abandoned after claims Michael Boxall was racially abused by an opposition player.

New Zealand refused to come out for the second half because no action was taken by the officials against Qatari player Yousuf Abdurisag.

Abdurisag made a comment towards Boxall shortly before halftime after Qatar were awarded a free-kick.

The defender and his All Whites teammates were visibly angered, but their pleas to the referee fell on deaf ears.

New Zealand were leading the match 1-0 after midfielder Marko Stamenic found the back of the net in the 17th minute.

Qatar coach Carlos Queiroz didn't hear what Abdurisag said to Boxall, but expects Fifa to investigate what occurred.

"The facts are the following," he told the Sky TV broadcast. "Apparently two players on the pitch exchanged words. 

The New Zealand players decided to support their teammate just as our team decided to support our player.

"They decided to abandon the game with no witnesses. The referee did not listen [to what was said]. It's just an argument between two players.

"I think it is a new chapter in football which is for sure something nobody can understand. Let's let the football authorities make a decision. I think this game will be under observation from Fifa for sure."
