Season one of Netflix's original series Dead To Me ended last year with a bang.

And on Friday, the streaming platform released the first tea ser trailer for the highly anticipated second season of the tragicomedy premiering May 8.

Season two will follow the series' unhinged duo Jen and Judy - played by Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini - as they attempt to outrun the passion fueled murder of Judy's ex fiance Steve.

The trailer begins with a montage of scenes from season one, including the infamous image of Jen and Judy standing over Steve's - played by James Marsden - lifeless body.

'I just want things to go back to before,' utters Cardellini as Judy via husky narration.

A car soars down a dark highway and, without warning, a body is struck and crashes into the windshield.

The scene reminds viewers of the inciting incident that catalyzed the series' first installment: a hit-and-run that claimed Jen's husband's life.

Cut to Jen peddling away on her Peloton bike, while another scene depicts Judy having her mugshot taken in a police station.

Police are then seen banging on an unidentified door, while idle scenes of notable locations in the series play over frantic narration.

The trailer then replays the dramatic showdown between Jen and Steve that occurred poolside.

With a gun in her hand, Applegate's character aims her gun at Steve and dramatically pulls the trigger, sending his body crashing into the pool.

After a brief moment of silence shared by Jen and Judy as they stare down at Steve's body floating in a pool of his own blood, the trailer goes into overdrive as triumphant orchestral music blares.

Scenes of stage performers, speeding police cars, and Judy emotionally breaking down flash across the screen at light speed.

The audience gets a jarring glimpse at Applegate's character Jen donning a gas mask before cutting to Jen and Judy faking a smile for the unknowing people that surround them.

The series' title card appears just before the trailer comes to its comedically dark conclusion.

In the finale scene, Jen and Judy are sitting across from one another at a diner as they engage in contentious conversation.

'We have to stay focused on the positive,' reminds Judy, as Jen stares on aggressively with a can of whipped cream in her grasp.

'How the f**k can you be positive right now? We are not in Snow White. We are in f**king Scarface,' whispers Jen.

'Well, I've never seen that,' admits Judy passively.

To which Jen replies: 'Neither have I. No girls have.'

Dead To Me writer Liz Feldman confirmed the series' second season last May to Thrillist, while also explaining her approach to crafting the dark comedy for television.

In her interview, Feldman explained that she 'always wanted to work in multi-cam, as a joke writer, but then, once I was in year seven or eight of that, I wanted to tell more serialized stories that could have depth and didn't rely on laugh tracks.'

She admitted that when the viewer is consuming Dead To Me, they are viewing the show through her lens.

'Through my lens - how I approach life. I'm a comedian, so my way of handling grief and loss is to feel it and go through it, but also to find the moments that are funny.'

Of the show's dark undertones, Feldman believes that humor can be found in all scenarios, dark or light.

'Inevitably, there's something funny in almost every dark thing. If you can find a way to laugh at it, we all know that that helps. It's my coping mechanism.'
