King Charles is determined to attend Trooping the Colour, despite his cancer battle, sources have claimed.

The Trooping of the Colour Ceremony celebrates the Sovereign’s official birthday and dates back to the seventeenth century, with this year's event set to take place on 15 June. The King had ruled out attending large-scale public gatherings after being diagnosed with cancer in January. However he has been seen bravely forging on with duty, meeting with world leaders and holding engagements at Buckingham Palace amidst his treatment.

According to reports, aides are already considering how Charles might make an appearance. Sources have told the Mail that he may be able to take part within the constraints of his ongoing treatment, with an insider saying Trooping the Colour is ‘top of the list’ of events Charles wants to attend.

Last year's event saw King Charles ride on horseback during the parade, marking the first time the reigning monarch has done so since 1986, when Queen Elizabeth II last rode. She later travelled in a carriage (as Queen Camilla and the Princess of Wales did at last year's event). It may be an option which is considered for the King, before watching the military spectacular from a podium.
