Surrey County Council has approved Ashford Town (Middlesex) Football Club’s application towards a new 3G Community Football Pitch, with the club set to receive a grant of £99,999 from the Your Fund Surrey Large Community Projects fund.

This substantial investment will support the development of a new 3G community football pitch, marking a significant step forward for grassroots football in the region.

The new 3G pitch will provide a state-of-the-art facility for local teams, schools, and community groups, fostering a thriving environment for players of all ages and abilities. This project showcases Surrey County Council’s commitment to enhancing community sports infrastructure and promoting healthy, active lifestyles in the borough of Spelthorne and beyond.

Denise Turner-Stewart, Surrey County Council Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Customer and Communities said: “We are thrilled to support Ashford Town (Middlesex) Football Club with this funding. The new 3G pitch will be a tremendous asset for the local community, providing a high-quality playing surface that can be used all year round to support fitness and wellbeing for local residents.

“It’s really encouraging to see this investment in Stanwell where this type of facility is much needed and is a fantastic example of how Your Fund Surrey is making a real difference in our communities by supporting projects that have a lasting positive impact.”

Nick Bailey, Ashford Town Club Chairman said: “Everyone at Ashford Town (Middlesex) Football Club would like to pass on our sincere thanks to Your Fund Surrey for their financial support with the new and exciting project that will be taking place at the club. Not only will it benefit teams across all sections, it will also provide a much-needed facility for the local community to enjoy and benefit from which aligns fully with our ethos of being a community led club.”

The club has a long history of promoting football at the grassroots level. The new pitch will also facilitate a wide range of activities aimed at underrepresented groups including women and girls, people with disabilities, young people and the elderly, and reach even more aspiring players. The investment comes at a particularly exciting time for football in England, following the national team’s impressive performance in the 2024 European Championship, where they’ve now reached the semi-finals.

As well as large community projects, there is also funding available via Councillors for Your Fund Surrey Small Community Funding and Your Councillor Community Funding.
