Australian Open Hes in tears Heartbreaking moment Novak
There was injury heartbreak for French qualifier Enzo Couacaud on Thursday as he turned his ankle in brutal fashion against Novak Djokovic.

There was injury heartbreak for French qualifier Enzo Couacaud on Thursday as he turned his ankle in brutal fashion against Novak Djokovic in the second round of the 2023 Australian Open.

Couacaud, who has suffered the misfortune of having an injury-plagued career, was let down by his body again at 3-1 down in the opening set against the nine-time champion at Melbourne Park as he hurt his ankle during a testing rally.

Facing the second break point of the game against the 35-year-old legend, Couacaud hurt himself badly as he twisted and turned at the net with Djokovic successfully passing him with a forehand winner.

"He hurt his ankle there at the end of that," observed Eurosport commentator Chris Bradnam.

"What a shame, what a shame! Look at his reaction. He is in tears."

Tim Henman added: "He did! He tried to change direction at the net and he is really limping. This does not look good.

"He jarred his right ankle trying to change direction. Djokovic goes down the line and there you can see the right ankle. That does not look comfortable!"

Couacaud's team say 'stop' after cruel injury in match against Djokovic

The physio was instantly called as the Frenchman limped over to his chair and covered his face with his towel while Djokovic walked over to show his concern.

The 27-year-old journeyman immediately took off his shoe to show an already swollen right ankle as he received lengthy treatment.

Couacaud courageously continued the match as he limped on, and Djokovic ended up having to receive lengthy medical treatment too with a recurrence of his ongoing hamstring issues.

Djokovic eventually came through what proved to be a tough test 6-1 6-7(5) 6-2 6-0 despite a valiant display from the French qualifier.
Particularly with his great rival, Rafael Nadal, having already exited the tournament after his shock defeat - after suffering an injury of his own - in the second round on Wednesday, Djokovic can clearly sense the opportunity to draw level with him on 22 Grand Slam singles titles this fortnight if he can stay healthy enough.

The 35-year-old can extend his record nine titles at the opening Grand Slam of the season Down Under if he is able to triumph again on his return to the tournament this year.
