Premier League chief executive Richard Masters has pulled out of a key note speech at the prestigious FT Business of Football Conference in London next week.
Masters was due to talk at the Conference on Thursday afternoon.
However, it now clashes with the crucial Premier League clubs’ meeting that has been called at short notice on Thursday to discuss the ‘New Deal’ for increased funding to the Football League.
Top flight clubs have failed to reach a consensus about were the additional finance, which will be around £900m over six years, should come from amid arguments over whether the richer clubs should pay an increased share.
The Football League are known to be willing to scrap two-legged EFL Cup semi-finals as part of any deal but are adamant nothing has been put to them yet.
Culture Minister Lucy Frazer is due to speak at the FT event earlier on Thursday morning, when she is expected to talk about the new football regulator.
