Covid-19 NZ: Duncan Garner tests positive

Duncan Garner has tested positive for Covid-19, but says he is feeling much better now.
Garner told Stuff he received his coronavirus test results last night, which confirmed – as he suspected – that he had the virus.
In an opinion piece this week for NBR, Garner said he had likely caught Covid-19 after his 11-year-old son returned a positive result.

Duncan Garner says it is likely he has caught Covid-19 amid the Delta outbreak in Auckland.
He said he started feeling unwell the Sunday before last, but was “at the end of it now”.

“I felt like sleeping that Sunday morning, spent the day feeling like s...,” he said.
Although he initially thought the illness was merely a head cold, the symptoms were worse.
“I had a headache and my body ached all over. I felt like if I moved, something would break.”
Garner said he took some paracetamol and Nurofen, and those symptoms began to ease.
“They worked a treat. I kept popping those pills, felt pretty good Monday/Tuesday, and got the sweats for a couple of days.”
Now, he’s “just a bit tired” and expects to test negative within the next few days.
Garner is double vaccinated, and said he received his second jab “right at the start of this illness”.
“I’m fine and my son’s fine. I’ll be getting back to it,” he said.
Garner encouraged people to get vaccinated in his NBR column, saying he knows he had not suffered the worst of what Delta could offer because he was vaccinated.
“I had a glimpse, though, and it’s awful,” he said.
“Despite the widespread vaccination rates, I’m proof you can still get Covid. It’s just a lighter version.”
There were 222 new cases of Covid-19 reported today, as well as one death at Auckland City Hospital.
Of those new cases, 197 were in Auckland, 20 in Waikato, one in Northland, two in the Wairarapa, and two in the Lakes District.
