Brighton vs Manchester City live updates: Sides settle for 1-1 draw ...

Pep Guardiola had praise for both sides after the draw: "It was an exceptional game. We showed why we're champions, against that team. We didn't drop our intensity or our ideas. We had chances and they had chances. Both teams wanted to press.

"Brighton have quality and they're an exceptional team. They destroy opponents with the way they play. We struggled but we did it really well and we didn't drop."

Jason Steele also spoke to Sky Sports on the pitch after the draw: "What an achievement, what a club, what a group of guys. The togetherness, the culture and we are driven in by a top, top manager. Special times."

Danny Welbeck spoke to Sky Sports on the pitch after the match about securing Europa League football: "It means a lot. We have worked really hard this season. It has been difficult, we've had a transition with a new manager coming in and everyone has responded in a brilliant way. To get Europa League football is amazing.

"From top to bottom the club is outstanding. It has some amazing people in it. We want to improve every day as players and people. It is an amazing club for youngsters to come to, to get professional football and play in the first team.

"This club is on a rise and we can't wait for the Europa League next season."

He may have been denied the winning goal, but Erling Haaland still managed to make yet another bit of history tonight.

With his assist on Foden's goal, Haaland now has 44 goal contributions this season (36 goals, 8 assists).

He matches Thierry Henry's record for the most goal contributions in a 38-game Premier League season, as Henry recorded 24 goals and 20 assists for Arsenal in the 2002-03 season.

City, of course, still have one more league match left to play...

Just to further emphasise Brighton's accomplishment today, they have brought Manchester City's 12-game winning streak in Premier League matches to an end. They're the first team to take points off of City in over three months.

Brighton recorded 20 shots in this match, a remarkable tally against the Premier League champions.

That total stands as the third-most ever in a top-flight match against a side managed by Pep Guardiola, bettered only by:

• Atletico Madrid: 22 shots vs Barcelona in March 2009
• Wolves: 21 shots vs Manchester City in December 2019

As this is Brighton's final home match of their best ever season, the players and staff have stayed on the pitch to celebrate with their supporters, who haven't gone anywhere either.

What an entertaining match we just witnessed, full of end-to-end action and chances for both sides and punctuated by Julio Enciso's incredible goal.

This match-up was so nearly the FA Cup final, were it not for Manchester United besting Brighton in a penalty shootout in the semi-final.

While a Manchester derby is sure to make for a great final next weekend, today's match demonstrated that Brighton are as entertaining as any side in the league.

Brighton have clinched a place in next season's Europa League!

They threatened to win the match in the final 30 seconds, but a point is enough to ensure that they finish in sixth place.

Haaland thought he had scored his 37th goal of the season, easily heading in a Palmer cross at the back post, but VAR has intervened.

Referee Simon Hooper is called to the monitor and quickly rules the goal out. Haaland has been penalised for tugging on Colwill's shirt, which allowed him to be all alone as Palmer's cross floated towards him.

Pep has not taken this decision well, remonstrating with the fourth official.

Estupinan hits a powerful shot from distance that appears to be arrowing towards the top corner, but it flies just wide of the target. That would have equalled Enciso's stunning goal in terms of beauty.
