Players fume as referee blocks scoring chance
'Certainly isn't seeing the amusing part of it'

Bayern Munich players were left none too happy when referee Slavko Vincic slipped and got in the way of a cross-field kick in Wednesday's Champions League.

At nil-all in the 33rd minute of the match against SS Lazio, Thomas Muller looked to set up the opening goal for Bayern Munich when the referee fell awkwardly and was hit by the crossed ball, forcing play to stop.

Parts of the crowd cheered while others booed as Vincic raised his hands to apologise for the gaffe.

"Oh dear," said commentator Guy Mowbray.

"Slavko Vincic has gone down like a falling… well I think oaf would be doing him a bit of an honour.

"Oh dear me," Mowbray laughed.

"Thomas Muller is not seeing the funny side. There was nothing good about that.

"Thomas Tuchel certainly isn't seeing the amusing part of it."

Bayern Munich didn't need to wait long for another chance to score, however.

Harry Kane got his first goal of the match in the 39th minute after he headed the ball in to level the score on aggregate at one apiece.

It was largely one-way traffic for Bayern Munich at home, scoring two more goals.

At the end of the first half, an incredible kick from Dutchman Matthijs de Ligt gave Muller a chance to head the ball two minutes into added time.

Kane capped off the 3-1 aggregate win in the 66th minute after Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel saved the ball initially only for the English star to slot the ball in the goal.

In the other match, French star Kylian Mbappe led Paris Saint-Germain to the quarter-finals with a 2-1 win over Real Sociedad.

PSG progressed 4-1 on aggregate. Mbappe scored twice in Wednesday morning's match in the 15th and 56th minutes.

With it, Mbappe reached 45 goals in the Champions League.

PSG are yet to win the competition and it stands to reason that this year could be their best chance with Mbappe.

After the 2024 campaign, he will depart the French outfit.
