Ange ‘reaches agreement’ to manage Spurs, deal details revealed with one last step left

Ange Postecoglou has reportedly verbally agreed to become Tottenham’s new manager, with the English Premier League club having offered the all-conquering Celtic boss a two-year deal.

Fabrizio Romano, one of world’s football most reliable and connected sources of transfer market news, announced the contract offer – that includes the option of a third season – on social media on Monday afternoon.

Spurs must now come to an agreement with Celtic over a compensation fee for the services of Postecoglou, who was reported to have told Hoops major shareholder Dermot Desmond that he wanted to leave the club to take charge of Tottenham.

According to British reports, Postecoglou spoke to Desmond in the aftermath of Celtic’s treble-clinching 3-1 Scottish Cup final win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Sunday morning (AEST).

Since then, the former Socceroos coach is understood to have met with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

Should 57-year-old Postecoglou make the move to the London club, he reportedly wants to take two of his Celtic assistants – John Kennedy and Gavin Strachan – with him.

Postecoglou was lapping up his team’s Cup win on the weekend, with any other jobs far from his thoughts.

“I will say to them what I said to the players, let’s enjoy this,” he said.

“I deserve to enjoy this, the people around me deserve to enjoy this.

“Whatever other people want to focus on and talk about, I am not going to miss enjoying this moment with this group of people but also I owe it to my family, my friends, all of those closest to me.

“Everyone works hard and makes sacrifices to enjoy these moments. I understand that other people who aren’t invested in it want to ask these questions but for me, right now, the most important thing is that we reflect and just be in the moment of creating something special.”

The Sun has also reported that Tottenham want Postecoglou to bring Celtic’s star Japanese striker Kyogo Furuhashi with him to Spurs.

Tottenham hasn’t had a permanent manager since parting ways with Italian Antonio Conte in March.

Since then Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason have served as acting head coaches.

Tottenham, whose star striker Harry Kane has been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid, finished the season in eighth spot on the EPL ladder, 29 points behind champions Manchester City.
