Tiger Woods Impresses Golf Fans at 2024 Masters; Will Complete ...
Tiger Woods made his long-awaited return to competition on Thursday at the 2024 Masters Tournament, and he put forth a vintage performance.
Woods played 13 holes before play was suspended and shot 1-under 51 at Augusta National. It was his first time playing since he withdrew from the Genesis Invitational in February.
The 48-year-old opened the day strong, sinking a birdie on the first hole. He had a bit of a stumble with a bogey on the fourth hole, but he bounced back with another birdie on the eighth. He also saved par in impressive fashion on his first four holes on the back nine.
Woods will complete his first round on Friday when play resumes at 8:00 a.m. ET. He will be grouped with Jason Day and Max Homa.
Fans on social media were excited by Woods' first-round performance, with some building hope that he could earn his sixth Masters win:
Jason Sobel @JasonSobelGolfThis has been a very Tiger Woods-like opening round of the Masters. Even in his prime, he'd treat Thursday like a heavyweight fight — stick and move, throw a few jabs, don't need to land a haymaker too early. Just keep yourself in it and make sure you don't get punched in the…
Preston McClellan @p_mcclellanI don't know what it is, but watching @TigerWoods play golf never gets old. That chip on 11 was so, so good.
Rich Eisen @richeisenTiger Woods, y'all.
Ryan Ballengee @RyanBallengeeTiger Woods looks great out there. I know it could all go wrong at any minute, especially with a long day tomorrow. But today, he's looked great.

While Woods admitted earlier this week that he is still working through lingering issues related to his ankle and leg injuries, he seemed to alleviate concerns with Thursday's performance.
Woods has the chance to make history this weekend. He's made the cut at the Masters 23 straight times, which is tied with Gary Player and Fred Couples for the all-time record. He can stand alone if he continues his steady play on Friday.
Fans are even more pumped to see Woods on the green after Thursday's outing, and the legendary golfer will look to keep putting on a show when play resumes.
